Plymouth, Ind. - Just a few weeks removed from winning the Florida Sun Conference and finishing second in the region the St. Thomas University golf team finished 15th in the 2008 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship. Alejandro Velasquez lead the way for the Bobcats, after four rounds of play he shot 294, good enough to tie him for 17th overall.
The Bobcats finished 57 strokes behind eventual tournament champion British Columbia, who combined to shoot a 1,156. Point Loma Nazarene's Sam Cyr had the best individual performance of the entire tournament, he shot 280.
Bobcats Juan Carlos Ordonez and Je Her had their best performances in the fourth and final round at the par-72 Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth, Indiana. Ordonez shot a 72 and Her shot a 70 good enough for a top 40 finish by both golfers. Valasquez also shot a 70 in the third round, 70 was the lowest individual score for a Bobcat. Both efforts were two short of the best individual round of the tournament, which was played by David Tobon of Johnson & Wales.
Max Keen and Bryan Alfonso finished in the top 100 individually. Both golfers produced their best rounds of play during the second and third rounds. Alfonso shot a 74 and a 76 in rounds two and three respectively, while Keen shot a 78 and a 79 in rounds two and three respectively.
