Miami Gardens, Fla - Construction for the Fernandez Family Center for Leadership and Wellness and the new St. Thomas University soccer field has made significant progress since the ground breaking ceremony April 26. A photo gallery of the progress is inside.
The building will be the new home for Bobcat athletics. The 62,000 sq. ft. multipurpose facility will house basketball and volleyball, intramural sports and a state-of-the-arts fitness and wellness center.
Mike Fernandez, chairman of MBF Healthcare Partners and one of Florida's healthcare tycoons, donated $3 million to the future hub of student activity and leadership development. Within the building walls the School of Leadership Studies will offer specific classes and seminars in leadership training, including the Lead Now Experience, which started in 2006 and develops high potential students.
"The creation of a leadership and wellness center will build an unprecedented opportunity for STU. The programs offered there will develop students' leadership skills, mold their minds, shape their bodies and build their spirits," says benefactor Mike Fernandez.
