Miami Gardens, FL - Former WNBA and international standout Octavia Blue will no longer be assisting women’s basketball head coach Robin Harmony because she has recently accepted a position to join the St. John’s women’s basketball team coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Blue’s personal experience as a player helped her to contribute to the development of the Bobcat players and their preparation for game situations. Her effort helped the first women’s basketball team in St. Thomas University history win 16 of their 27 games and a post season victory over Florida Memorial University.
The Bobcats are losing a coach that may not have coached in every situation but surly has played in close to every situation. She played at the University of Miami from 1994-98 and was named a two-time All-American, a three-time All-Big East selection and is the fifth all-time leading scorer in Hurricane history with 1,724 points. After her college career she would be drafted 15th overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 1998 WNBA draft. Her professional career lasted until 2006. During her career she played with both the Sparks and Houston Comets and several international clubs in Greece, Israel, France, Turkey and Poland.
