MIAMI GARDENS, FLThe St. Thomas University Bobcats (13-12) softball team played two tough games against the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen (2-4) splitting their double header matchup.  The Penmen took the first game, winning 2-0 in nine-innings and the Bobcats were able to take advantage opportunities to score in the second game and won 5-2.

In the first game the Bobcats were entrenched in a defensive battle, neither team scored a run through the first eight-innings of the game.  Amanda Heyl received credit for the loss she pitched six-innings, allowed four hits and struck out five batters.  Kelly Diebler also pitched three-innings during the game striking out four batters and allowing one hit.  Hits were few and far between for the Bobcats getting a hit in the game were Tina Diaz, Jessica Vera, and Courtney Fish.

In the second game the Bobcats would begin scoring in the second posting two runs on the board on a two-run single by Koely Kempisty, which brought Melissa King and Fish home.  The Bobcats would not look back holding off the Penmen for the remainder of the game.  The Penmen would put scores on the board during the third and sixth-innings but where never able to catch the Bobcats thanks to scores in the fifth and sixth-innings.  Melissa King was the most consistent Bobcat with the bat getting two hits on two at bats and bringing in a run and scoring a run of her own.  The Bobcats play again March 25, at home against Broward Community College.
