09 Seniors Kelly Deibler and Koely Kempisty
MIAMI GARDENS, FL – The St. Thomas University Bobcats dropped a softball double-header to Warner University, Saturday (April 11), on Senior Day for the Bobcats. Koely Kempisty and Kelly Deibler were the two Bobcat seniors who were honored before the game. The Bobcats got off to a rough start on the day dropping game one of the double-header by a score of 6-0. Game two of the double-header went back and forth before Warner took control in the 6th inning and won by a score of 5-3. The losses drop the Bobcats overall record to 17-18 on the season.
Game one of the double-header was a low scoring affair until late. The Bobcats were down by a score of 1-0 in the 7th inning before Warner hit a couple homers and tacked on 5 runs to make it a 6-0 game. The Bobcats were held to only 6 hits offensively, as Melissa King was the only Bobcats who had multiple hits going 2-3 with a double and a stolen base. Jenny Sanchez, Monica Garcia, and Janelle Cobas each chipped in with one hit. Gina Guffanti pitched a complete game going 7 innings and allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits. Gina was credited with the loss and also walked 2 and struck out 2.
Game two of the double-header was a back and forth contest in which the Bobcats had a 3-2 lead heading into the 6th inning. Warner was able to come up with a 3-run 6th inning and take a 5-3 lead they would not relinquish. Senior, Koely Kempisty was able to go 2-3 with a RBI double. Janelle Cobas also had 2 hits going 2-3 with a run scored. Gina Guffanti went 1-4 and had a towering homer for her lone hit of the game. Melissa King went 1-4 with a double and a run scored. Amanda Fernandez also went 1-3. Amanda Heyl pitched a complete game going 7 innings allowing 5 runs on 9 hits, also walking 2 and striking out 4. Heyl was credited with the loss and she also went 1-3 at the plate with a RBI double.
The Bobcats will be looking to get back to .500, as they will be taking on NOVA Southeastern University on Wednesday (April 15). The game is away and is set to begin at 5:00 pm.
