WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the go ahead win to beat the St. Thomas University Bobcats (24-23) for The Sun Conference Tournament Championship
In Game 2 of the Conference Tournament, SCAD rallied for six runs in its final two at bats to record a thrilling 7-6 come-from-behind victory over St. Thomas. The Bobcats went on to beat Webber International 1-0 and again 3-0 to advance to Game 6.
St. Thomas (23-22), No. 2 seed of TSC Tournament, had swept a three-game conference series from SCAD earlier this season, but could not muster another win to stay alive in Game 6 of the tournament.
SCAD took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Bobcats responded with a run in the second inning. But the Bees picked up two more runs in the third to stay ahead. St. Thomas rallied in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 5, scoring four runs. But the Bees of SCAD responded yet again with 2 runs to beat the Bobcats for the title.
Junior Gina Guffanti went 3 for 4 in the final game with 3 RBI while Freshman Melissa King hit a solo home run.
St. Thomas ends their season with a 24-23 overall record.
