MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.— This Thursday, September 10, the dedication ceremony for the brand new Fernandez Family Center for Leadership and Wellness will take place at 10:00 am.

The center will become the new home for Bobcat athletics. The 62,000 sq. ft. multipurpose facility will house basketball and volleyball, intramural sports and a state-of-the-art fitness and wellness center. In addition to its athletic and wellness purposes, the School of Leadership Studies will offer specific classes and seminars in leadership training, including the Lead Now Experience, which started in 2006 and develops high potential students

Mike Fernandez, chairman of MBF Healthcare Partners, donated $3 million to the future hub of student activity and leadership development. "The creation of a leadership and wellness center will build an unprecedented opportunity for STU. The programs offered there will develop students' leadership skills, mold their minds, shape their bodies and build their spirits," says benefactor Mike Fernandez

The center will join a new soccer field, the Frank R. Esposito Baseball Field, and the Bobcat softball field as part of the facilities for St. Thomas athletics.

The dedication ceremony will feature appearances by John C Favalora, Archbishop or Miami, Monsignor Franklyn Casale, and the St. Thomas Board of Trustees. Tours of the new athletic facility and a tailgate lunch will take place after the ceremony.
