FT. MYERS, Fla. – Bobcats continue hot streak through the Sun Conference Tournament with win over top-seeded Embry-Riddle Tuesday. St. Thomas beat the #9 Eagles, 3-1 with a strong performance from their pitching staff.
Dane Stone went six innings surrendering just 1 run from 21 batters faced. Ali Salazar came in for relief and pitched two scoreless, while Anthony Perez closed out the ninth inning with two strike outs. Stone was credited with the win, and Perez the save.
Nestor Rincon continued his strong offensive play bringing in the game's first run with a single to center field in the first inning. Alvaro Bastos scored for St. Thomas. Emby-Riddle answered with a run in the bottom of the second, but St. Thomas regained the lead in the third when Lance Larimer scored on a wild throw. STU's final run came in the sixth inning on a Ruy Rodriguez single to score Victor Madrazo.
STU had 6 hits compared to Embry-Riddle's 4 for the game, but the Eagles' 3 errors proved to be their undoing. St. Thomas will play in the Conference Tournament Championship game tomorrow at 11 AM against the winner of Embry-Riddle and Fla. Memorial/SCAD. If the Bobcats lose they will have one more opportunity at the title at 3 PM as they have not lost.
