FT. MYERS, Fla. – St. Thomas won their first game in the Sun Conference Tournament Sunday, 17-4 over South Carolina-Beaufort. Lance Larimer was also named to 1st Team All-Conference.
The Bobcats scored in 5 of 6 innings with 21 hits to bring 17 runs. St. Thomas started the game with 3 runs in the first, two of which came on a Nestor Rincon double to left field. STU grabbed 2 more runs in the second, one on a Larimer HBP and the other on a Stephen Merino single to left field. St. Thomas held a 5-0 lead through two innings.
The Sand Sharks scored their first run in the top of the third and held the Bobcats scoreless in the bottom of the inning. STU rallied with 5 more runs in the fourth and topped off the onslaught with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Rincon led the Bobcats with 6 RBIs on 3 hits, one of which was a home run. Merino knocked in 3 runs and scored 3 runs in 5 ABs. Victor Madrazo supported with 2 RBIs, 2 runs, and 4 hits.
A great offensive effort for the Bobcats Sunday, but sufficient support came from STU's pitching with just 4 earned runs allowed in seven innings. Michael Arostegui received the win with four innings pitched.
