The St. Thomas Lady Bobcats made it all the way to the Sun Conference Tournament Finals this weekend before losing the championship game to SCAD. The Bobcats started off the double elimination tournament yesterday by defeating the #24 nationally ranked Warner Royals 5-0. The Bobcats' Carissa Albizu really set the tone going 3-4 with 3 runs scored out of the leadoff spot. This moved the Lady Bobcats into the winner's bracket and set up a game against SCAD in which they lost 3-2. St. Thomas gave up all three SCAD runs in the first two innings and never recovered.
This sent the Bobcats to the other side of the bracket and set up a rematch with Warner on Sunday. The Bobcats took it to the Royals for the second straight day and were victorious 4-1. The middle of the Bobcats order led the way as Melissa King went 2-3 with 2 runs scored to go along with Cindy Castrillon going 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Jessica Vera also went 2-3 and drove in 2 runs.
The Bobcats reward for beating Warner a second time was another rematch, this time with SCAD. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, SCAD once again got the better of them taking the title with a 7-1 victory. The Lady Bobcats finish their season proud as the 2010 Sun Conference Runner-Ups.
