Women's soccer falls to SCAD 1-0

Wittak leads the way for SCAD

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla- The STU women's soccer team was in action Sunday afternoon as they took on SCAD on Bobcat Field. STU lost the match 1-0.

 

STU came out in the first half with guns blazing with quick shots on goal in the 3rd and 6th minutes by Melony Poviones and Miranda Goransson. The first goal of the match would come just after the 8th minute with a beautiful through ball played by Sydney Benda to Nikki Wittak for the match's first score for SCAD. This would prove to be the game winner. “I went from a wide position to the middle from where Sydney played a beautiful through ball, Wittak said. I felt the defender on my hip and put it in”, Wittak added.

 

STU coach Michelle Smith gave her thoughts after the match. “They dominated, we were unlucky we just couldn't put it in the net, smith said. We made a mistake in the beginning and they took it from us”, Smith added.

 

Later in the 18th minute of action STU had another shot on goal by Melony Poviones that was saved by SCAD goalkeeper Ciara Thomas. STU would continue their assault on the SCAD goalpost a minute later with another shot on goal by Miranda Goransson that was blocked and deflected out of play.

 

STU's best chance of the match for an equalizer would come in the 33rd minute with a shot by Sara Mira that hit the crossbar. STU would continue their assault to no avail

with shots by Goransson and Monica Lozano going high and wide right. The first half would come to an end with SCAD up 1-0.

 

STU would come out in the second half with guns blazing with a shot on goal by Amanda Trujillo that was saved by Ciara Thomas. In the 52nd minute SCAD's Gabby Levandowski would take a shot at STU's goal that was saved by Ariana Lorenzo.

 

STU would be awarded two quick corner kicks in the 52nd and 53rd minutes that were deflected. In the 59th minute SCAD's Nikki Wittak would shoot a header that was wide of the net and missed its target wide right. A few minutes later in the 61st minute Amanda Trujillo would give it a go and take an STU shot at goal with a header that was deflected after it hit the post.

 

SCAD coach Andy Williams would give his assessment after the match. “It was a close game St. Thomas was really battling hard, Williams said. We were fortunate to get the one to nothing victory.”
