Daytona Beach, Fla.—The St Thomas University Men's Tennis Team traveled up to Daytona Beach for the 2011 Sun Conference Tournament. The Bobcats faced SCAD in the semifinals on Friday morning and pulled through once again to come from behind and claim a spot in the Conference Final. After doubles play, STU found themselves behind 2-1. The guys were determined to claim a spot in the Final with their hopes of claiming a first Conference Tournament win. The Bobcats quickly even out the score at 2-2 with freshman Nicolas Etienne winning at the #6 spot followed by a win by senior Adrian Escarate. The Bobcats had a lead and they would never look back. The score evened out at 3-3 with Andrew Rifkin dropping his match. Next to finish was Senior Jeremy Bache who was too solid for SCADs Mihai Draganescu and gave STU a 4-3 led with Seniors Gonzalo "Tito" Gayoso and Federico Acevedo still playing their matches. Federico Acevedo in one of the biggest matches of the year for the Bobcats came through in the clutch and pulled off a 7-6, 6-4 win to clinch the victory for the Bobcats and claim a spot in the Final. STU will face conference rival Embry-Riddle on Saturday morning for the Conference title at 10am. Go Bobcats!
